SMG-I has terrible response time, and E36 M3 doesn't look good at all.

SMGII is the technology 10 years ago, DSG is only 5 years.

I read automotive journal, DSG technology was first developed in 1992 by Porsche.
but at that time, lack of advanced sensors and computer system to do the coordination, therefore it was not successful.
But in 2002, things became matured and therefore DSG resulted.
Now porsche PDK is very advanced, 6% fuel economy than manual shift.
VW's 7 speed DSG is as fuel economy as 8 speed auto.
