since the quality for the 2 lenses starts to deteriorate beyond 70mm, it really depends on what you have already.
If you only have the fixed focal 50/1.7, i would go for the 28-105, and save some $ for a wide angle.
But then, some people thinks that IS is a must, but to me, it is only the case if you need to chase moving objects.
