If the smoke is as thick as befor like the old turbo, it shouldn't be the problem from turbo
My punto was cleared from the smoke after installed the new turbo.

How should I break in a turbo?
A properly assembled and balanced turbo requires no specific break-in procedure. However, for new installations a close inspection is recommended to insure proper installation and function. Common problems are generally associated with leaks (oil, water, inlet or exhaust).

Btw, if you are considering a hybrid turbo (=$$$$) for quicker spool up time rather than mega BHP boost, and you intend to keep the turbo boost within a sensible level say around 1.1 bar then you probably don't need a re-map of the your ECU.

I am keeping my 16vt at 0.9bar (13 psi) for long term reliability!

I think Anthony's hybrid turbo setup is geared towards bigger BHP rather than quicker spool up time, but I think it is better for the man to explain it himself!
