首代Volkswagen Golf GTI誕生於1976年，迄今已超過30年歷史。儘管不少人也認同五代GTI已相當完美，惟車款推出4年便被六代GTI取代，廠方無疑對新一代的GTI顯得更具信心。現時，輸港的版本清一色是五門揭背型號，造型比起五代GTI沒有翻天覆地的改變，但典型的蜂窩式柵格、18吋合金輪圈以至左右雙出排氣喉，都讓全車看起來更具霸氣。廠方總設計師Walter de Silva在全球發布會上表示，六代GTI不僅繼承了車系高性能的特點，還具備了型格的外觀。

The most powerful and fastest-accelerating Golf ever produced – the Golf R – has been unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Developed by Volkswagen Individual, the special projects wing of Volkswagen, and following on from the Mk IV and Mk V Golf R32 models, the Golf R is equipped with a 2.0-litre TSI four-cylinder engine developing 270 PS and four-wheel drive.

Not only is the new engine 35 kg lighter and 20 PS more powerful than the 3.2-litre V6 found in the outgoing Golf R32, it’s also more efficient. Economy rises from a combined 26.4 mpg to 33.2 mpg while CO2 emissions fall from 257 g/km to 199 g/km. Despite the gains in efficiency the Golf R is faster and sharper than ever – the new car can accelerate from rest to 62 mph in just 5.7 seconds. Equipped with a six-speed DSG gearbox, this figure falls to 5.5 seconds while top speed is limited to 155 mph.

The VW Golf R is a successor for the R32 but it won’t use that car’s 3.2-litre V6 according to the reports. Instead, it will get a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which produces 261bhp and around 258lb ft of torque.

Its 0-62mph time for the six-speed manual is expected to be 6.5secs, with the DSG-equipped model capable of getting to 62mph in 6.4secs.

Other features claimed to appear on the R include LED lights, new wheels, sills and badges, and twin rear exhausts. Inside it gets two-tone sports seats, aluminium pedals and R badging.

No prices have been confirmed by VW, but expect to pay around £25,000 when it goes on sale in the UK next year.

Golf's target market prefers this type of familiar Golf traditional look, it might not look as good as the 156, but it will still out sell 156 + 159 + 147 + 149 all put together whether you like it or not.

Personally, I think it looks ok, pretty good for an ordinary day to day family car.

Frankly, i think 156 was a much better design, visually.  Even in today's standard.
I do not find the Golf MkVI to be an eye candy at all...
